Christian Martial Arts Center is committed to offering the highest quality martial arts program in Western North Carolina, neighboring North Georgia and Eastern Tennessee in a friendly family oriented environment. We offer Women’s Self-defense Seminars at our facility periodically. We have also conducted special "off site" classes at Murphy High School, Butterfly Life Women’s Fitness Center, and other locations for various women’s groups. Our experience in this area has even extended to conducting classes for the women and orphans of the Mutambara Village, Zimbabwe, Africa during a mission trip there in 2007 that our school helped fund. Both, in school and out of school, we are equally committed to being a ministry engaged in demonstrating, by example, the Tenets of Christianity as they align with the Tenets of Taekwondo (see our link on Tenets). We try to do this by having our Instructors, Board of Directors and Volunteers try to live out the Great Commandment, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind...and love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37, 39b).
Kathy’s interest in Martial Arts began with a course in Women’s Self-defense with Martial Hearts, Inc. of Atlanta, GA, after having been a victim of "road rage" in 1997. She continued with the program until she became an instructor. After moving to Murphy she began a free Women’s Self-defense Class as a community outreach program in a local church. .Shortly thereafter, she began to study Taekwondo. From this seed emerged the vision for Christian Martial Arts Ministries and the Christian Martial Arts Center. Kathy now holds a Black Belt and National Certification through the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) as well as International Certification through the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). She is also a certified AAU tournament official and judge. In addition to her martial arts interest, Ms. Cardwell holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy from the University of South Carolina. She has over 35 years of teaching experience and has performed across the Southeastern U.S. and Italy. Kathy has held offices in numerous music organizations and judges piano competitions for many local, state, and national organizations. She has been Pianist, Organist, Choir Director, and Sunday School teacher in various churches and taught classroom music at the First Baptist Church School in Charleston, SC.
